What We’re About

It all Starts with the Soil!

Our business is about stepping away from the modern conventional ways of gardening and bringing traditional solutions and methods back to the mainstream.

We help to build a community of growers that are working with nature not against her, in a safe and non toxic manner.

There is much more life going on under our feet than we can even imagine. By using high quality composts and vermicomposts, we are able to provide a large diversity of microbiology back into the soil food web and bring a state of natural balance to your backyard or back forty. Whether you are a client that wants to ask a few questions or a school that teaches many students, we strive to educate on the importance of the life factor that belongs in all soil.

If you are looking for the prefect lawn like a golf course, then we are most likely not the right fit for you.  Living Soil Solutions is more focused on the long term solution then the quick fix.

I enjoy working with people who appreciate and want to be educated on natural options to enhance their soil and life.  This is where Living Soil Solutions like’s to pass on those skills and share that knowledge with our clients.  A sense of ease can be found when one understands the results that can be brought together on common ground.

The Trifecta

The focus has always been on the Chemical and Physical properties of the soil, but research shows that the Biological side has a huge impact and we need all three to have success growing any kind of vegetation naturally.  Living Soil Solutions focuses on Educating about the Biological properties of the soil and providing a high customer service using ethical products helping build and bring back that natural balance or relationship back to soil and plant.

What I’m About

Hi I am Mike Dorion “aka the Compost Kid”

I love food! Local grocery stores just can not match the memories of tastiness from my Grandma’s garden. Many people from my generation have missed out on precious skills that were not passed down, so we have to find other teachers. Starting with a Gardening class put on by the Calgary Horticulture Society, I became immersed. It continued with my Permaculture Design Certificate, SPIN Farming, Greenhouse Design, Herbology and mentoring on Soil and Soil Micro Biology. I am currently working on my Soil Food Web Advisor role with the Life in the Soil program put on by Elaine Ingham and sit on the board of Calgary Permaculture Guild.
